1. Notes from the Coach

The Half Million Subscribers Experiment

I've decided to play for the outrageous target of half a million subscribers to Depression Antidotes.

I've been feeling a little unsettled because my life has been ticking over nicely but I seemed to have lost the 'oomph'. I have been working on 4 major areas - the Depression Antidotes newsletter, my web-site (stay tuned for its imminent launch), the Clutter Busting Coaching Programme and the Transforming Depression Coaching Clinic. These are now in-hand and I was missing where to go from here. I needed something to challenge me and pull me forward.

Last week I was incarcerated at home with my bespotted toddler who was suffering from Chicken Pox. He wasn't too unwell with it but it was a tough time for us. There were things I wanted to do, people I wanted to see, places I wanted to go and Sam clearly felt the same. We missed our afternoons in the park.

However, I tried to see it as a learning experience and take advantage of the extra time with him. I looked back over the Depression Antidotes and tried to "Stop Struggling and Go with the Flow". I practised "Hanging out in the Void". I tried to accept the present as perfect.

Did I succeed? Yes and no.

There were good days and bad days. (It's the old story - having the answers is one thing, putting them into practice is quite another.) But I have to admit to breathing a huge sigh of relief (Sam's equivalent was jumping up and down with excitement shouting "school", "school" "school"!) when Sam returned to nursery and I returned to "work".

Borne along by a sudden rush of freedom and possibility I decided to take an outrageous next step. I'm now going to attract 500,000 subscribers to Depression Antidotes.
Why am I doing this?

~ Because it seems like a really fun thing to do.
~ Because the thought of it makes me smile and energises me.
~ Because I want to see if it can be done.
~ Because I want to see what happens if you aim for the stars.

If you're feeling ready for an outrageous step yourself, send me an e-mail and let me know what you're planning. However, take note of the points mentioned in the Depression Antidote below.

2. Depression Antidote No. 13

Play for an Outrageous Target

Sometimes we need to stretch ourselves and aim for the outrageous. Whether we make it or not is immaterial. What's important is aiming high. Feel the constraints you've placed on yourself, fall away when you pay for an outrageous target. Choose something that seems fun - which energises you. Most importantly, notice my choice of words. I did not say "set yourself an outrageous goal". To experience the freedom you need to choose something you can aim for (target) but that you're not attached to achieving. The idea is to play with possibilities. Be flexible and enjoy.

3. Alternative Approach (diet and depression)

Watch your cholesterol level

A recent investigation of 121 healthy young females found that those with low cholesterol were more likely to score high on measures of depression and anxiety than women with normal or high cholesterol.

A previous study of elderly men had also suggested the link.

Prof Suarez of Duke University, North Carolina says there is now "a compelling body of evidence in both men and women that low cholesterol is a potential predictor for depression and anxiety in certain individuals".

This doesn't mean you can all rush out and indulge in high-fat foods but, if you have naturally low cholesterol, you might benefit from healthy dietary measures, like consuming more fish or fish oil.

Diet and Depression is just one of the topics you can find in the:

'7 Steps to a Depression Free Life Coaching Program'

which can be found in this Self Help for Depression eBook

** To the Summit by Margo Chisholm **

This is a remarkable story of healing, discovery and power. It's an adventure about climbing mountains, but more importantly, it's about over-coming the fears that limit our vision and the doubts that prevent us from achieving our goals and creating our own peak experiences! The Millennium Bug Revisited

(For those of you who missed this the first time it did the rounds!)

While browsing through some dust-covered archival material in the recesses of the Roman Section of the British Museum, a researcher recently came across a tattered bit of parchment. After some effort he translated it and found that it was a letter from a man called Plutonius with the title of "magister fastorium", or keeper of the calendar, to one Cassius. The text of the message follows:

Dear Cassius,
Are you still working on the Y zero K problem?
This change from BC to AD is giving us a lot of headaches and we haven't much time left. I don't know how people will cope with working the wrong way around. Having been working happily downwards forever, now we have to start thinking upwards. You would think that someone would have thought of it earlier and not left it to us to sort it all out at this last minute.
I spoke to Caesar the other evening. He was livid that Julius hadn't done something about it when he was sorting out the calendar. He said he could see why Brutus turned nasty. We called in the consulting astrologers, but they simply said that continuing downwards using minus BC won't work. As usual, the consultants charged a fortune for doing nothing useful.
As for myself, I just can't see the sand in an hour glass flowing upwards. We have heard that there are three wise men in the East who have been working on the problem, but unfortunately they won't arrive until it's all over. Some say the world will cease to exist at the moment of transition.
Anyway we are still continuing to work on this blasted Y zero K problem and will send you a parchment if anything further develops.
Vale.
Plutonius

. . . . . . . . . .

Have a wonder-filled week

Nancy
